Some of the most fun I’ve had at a movie all year, Violent Night excels with an excellent premise it takes full advantage of. As many others have said, it’s Die Hard with Santa, and that premise just goddamn works. I love the world they’ve built with this Santa, even though we actually see very little of it I’m intrigued to know more; not to mention David Harbour excels in the role of a disgruntled Santa who finds purpose again. While the film is quite violent and sometimes gory, it still never loses sense of the Christmas spirit, holding to true to Santa mythos, adding its own, and leaving you with a good feeling of Christmas spirit. I really enjoyed this movie, and it’s definitely a new Christmas classic.
