This is an odd film with an odd idea. What’s even more odd, it’s an idea we’ve seen before (Edgar Allen Poe as a detective), it’s just an idea that never stops being a little strange. Pale Blue Eyes is a solid mystery, even with a pretty good twist at the end, and the lead actors are both acting their asses off. It’s never great though, just a passable mystery with a weird hook. That combined with a dour tone that seeps any color from this movie can make it kind of a drain to watch. Despite the negativity in this review, I didn’t actually dislike this movie, it just never particularly grabbed me. It’s a well-made mystery with some great acting, and any fans of the genre should like it.
